Faraway Director
About us
The Faraway are a Peer-Led Organisation, employing Autistic people to support Autistic people in North East Lincolnshire. We have been established since 2019 and work closely in partnership with the local statutory Neurodiversity Services provided by the Care Plus Group and Navigo.
Job Description
North East Lincolnshire Council’s Household Support Fund have provided us with funding to run a six session cookery course, with each session being 2 hours in duration, for a minimum of ten people per week.
As Cooking Group Facilitator, you will be involved in all aspects of running the sessions, including planning the sessions, printing out menus, shopping for ingredients, setting up and clearing up afterwards, supporting the people who attend the cooking sessions to safely build their cooking skills and confidence in cooking for themselves.
The fund allows for the purchase of appropriate cooking equipment for the type of cooking sessions you want to provide. Previous cooking groups have used electric hobs, air fryers and slow cookers. You, alongside your cooking group facilitator colleagues will be free to decide the nature of the cooking group and will have a budget to spend on equipment and food.
Main Duties/Responsibilities
You will have the ability to communicate with others and be able to show people the skills they need to successfully and safely follow a recipe.
It is expected that you will be comfortable and competent in cooking the recipes that you are supporting others to learn and replicate.
You will have reasonable planning and organisational skills, or the ability to ask for help with these things if you need it. You’ll have a total of 6 hours to plan the cooking group with your co-facilitator and other Faraway staff.
You will be physically able to stand on your feet for at least a 2-hour period.
You will be responsible for ensuring the safe use of kitchen equipment and ensuring a First Aider in the building is available during the cooking sessions.
You will be responsible for the purchasing of the right quantities of food and for ensuring the food is kept according to safety instructions in the cupboards, fridges, freezers on site.
You will be responsible for keeping a record of the people attending each session and sharing this information with our administrator so it can be kept securely on our data collection system – HUBBOT.
You will have the freedom to act on your own initiative and design the sessions around your own interests as long as these can be reasonable taught to others within the confines of the cookery sessions as outlined above.
You will be expected to put together the menus and will be able to print them out and put them in a folder for the participants.
You’ll be expected to conduct yourself in a professional manner and to ensure the safety and wellbeing of yourself, colleagues and participants. Managers will be available on-site to provide advice and support where needed.
Terms and conditions
You will be employed for a total of 30 hours only and paid £12.64/hour in arrears on a 4-weekly basis.
You will be entitled to claim a maximum of £5 per session for travel expenses.
