Faraway Director
About us
The Faraway are a Peer-Led Organisation, employing Autistic people to support Autistic people in North East Lincolnshire. We have been established since 2019 and work closely in partnership with the local statutory Neurodiversity Services provided by the Care Plus Group and Navigo.
Job Description
We’ve finally grown big enough to need and be able to afford a full-time Manager! We need someone who can run the Faraway for us on a daily basis and do everything that needs doing to enable our Peer-Led Organisation to continue to thrive.
If you’re looking for a quiet, boring job, then this is not for you! We’d love it if you could do all of the things listed in the Job Description below, but the main duties and responsibilities you will have are in managing and supervising the existing Peer Support Workers and Administrator (total four employees), working alongside and supporting the Directors (currently three), recruiting and managing a new team of Volunteers (up to ten in the first year, fifteen in the second year, twenty in the third year), and doing everything there is to do on a daily basis to support the delivery of our Peer Support Offer as part of the local statutory Neurodiversity Services Diagnostic and Support Pathway.
You’ll have extensive experience working with neurodiverse people and with a wide range of mental health conditions. You will have a lot of autonomy in your role, so will need to be confident in your own abilities, competent in communicating and supporting other people and trustworthy. You’ll be expected to identify your own training needs and that of the people you support and then source these in the most economical way possible.
You will be expected to practice as a leader, effectively managing your own workload and work within professional, organisational and systems boundaries. In order to improve peer-led services, you will participate in networking with other organisations, both locally, regionally and nationally.
You will also be expected to assess and manage risk and proactively challenge others about risk, whether that’s a Safeguarding risk, risks to staff, risks to others or risks to Faraway.
Main Duties/Responsibilities
Managing and supervising the existing Peer Support Workers and Administrator (total four employees).
Providing regular individual and group supervision on the same day, at the same time, at the same frequency for all staff. Responsible for the training and development of all staff.
Working alongside and supporting the Directors (currently three).
Arranging and attending Team Meetings and Directors Meetings.
Managing any HR issues that arise, together with the Directors.
Support the Directors and Accountants to manage the financial wellbeing of Faraway.
Recruiting and managing a new team of Volunteers (up to ten in the first year, fifteen in the second year, twenty in the third year).
Ensure all relevant Policies and Procedures are in place, reviewed and up-to-date.
Supporting volunteers to identify their skills and strengths and turning their passions and ideas into peer-led groups and events that will benefit our members.
Supporting the delivery of our Peer Support Offer as part of the local statutory Neurodiversity Services Diagnostic and Support Pathway.
Respond to Member Enquiries, providing information about our peer-led offer and what else is available to people in NEL.
Manage the allocation of work to our Peer Support Workers and Volunteers.
Be responsible for identifying appropriate sources of funding and applying for funding for the specific projects and peer-led support offered by Faraway.
Be able to work autonomously under the supervision and guidance of the Directors.
Identify your own training needs and make recommendations to the Directors about how these can be met.
Effectively manage your workload.
Be an inspiring and effective leader, coaching and mentoring staff and volunteers to be the best they can be in their role.
Network extensively, promoting a positive reputation of our peer-led organisation.
Advocate and lobby for equality.
Maintain accurate records using our data collection and storage systems (Microsoft Office 365, HUBBOT, etc)
Manage project budgets and maintain accurate spending records using spreadsheets.
Actively assess and manage risk and proactively challenge others about risk, whether that’s a Safeguarding risk, risks to staff, risks to others or risks to Faraway.
This is not an exhaustive list of roles and responsibilities as I’ve likely missed some out, but hopefully, the above gives you the gist of the kind of person we are looking for!
Terms and conditions
You will be a full-time salaried employee for a total of 37.5 hours a week. Flexible working can be considered to meet both yours and our needs. You will be paid in arrears on the 28th of each month.
Annual leave to be agreed upon appointment. Sick Leave entitlement is Statutory Sick Pay. Full terms and conditions will be provided in the Offer of Employment Letter if successful at interview.
